Team Pilot secured its title as the winner of the USPA Gold Cup on March 25 with a score of 12-11 over Aspen at the U.S. Polo Assn. Stadium Field at the International Polo Club Palm Beach.
With the latest win from Pilot, the stakes are higher than ever with the potential of a first-ever Gauntlet of Polo champion. The next chapter will be determined on April 21, after Pilot competes in the U.S. Open Polo Championship March 27-April 21.
The inaugural Gauntlet of Polo was created to develop a high-stakes polo competition that offers players and fans an exciting three months of the highest level of skilled athletes, equine partners and strategic planning that ends with $1 million prize across three tournaments: the C.V. Whitney Cup, the USPA Gold Cup and the U.S. Open Polo Championship, contested for over 115 years.
For the first time in the sport, the tournament series will include a “Winner Take All” prize money format. Pilot has already secured $125,000 for winning the C.V. Whitney Cup plus $125,000 for winning the USPA Gold Cup. And if they win the U.S. Open Polo Championship they will receive a $250,000 prize, a $500,000 bonus and be crowned the Gauntlet Champion.
“We are thrilled to see a team progress this far in the first-ever Gauntlet of Polo. The team is competing for more than just bragging rights, they are competing for $1M and the Gauntlet Champion, polo’s ultimate test. In addition to strategic planning and outstanding athleticism required to win this many games consecutively, the Gauntlet offers existing and new fans a fun and exciting day of polo. Whether it’s a VIP brunch or ‘court-side’ seats on the stadium side, we have activities for everyone,” said David Cummings, President and CEO, Global Polo Entertainment.
One key differentiation in the Gauntlet of Polo is that for the first time in history there are 16 teams, 64 players and 640 polo ponies playing consistently across all three tournaments. The Gauntlet also features some of the world’s finest 10 goal-players, premier athletes who have a lifetime’s worth of equine and polo achievements that require a level of expertise shared by less than 1 percent of the polo population. This year’s participating 10 goalers are Facundo Pieres, Polito Pieres, Sapo Caset, Hilario Ulloa, Gonzalito Pieres and Nico Pieres.
All Gauntlet games will be live-streamed on USPA Polo Network or live-streamed on the U.S. Polo Network YouTube channel each week with the final event airing on CBS Sports, April 28 at 2 p.m. EDT. Tickets for all Gauntlet of Polo events will be available for purchase at www.internationalpoloclub.com.
But there is a collector link who assembled all four of Philippe Dufour's signed creations in his personal collection, a quest that took over a decade. Now he is letting that collection go, all at link once, consigning it to Phillips for its link November Geneva sale, which will be held over two days, on November 5 and 7 in the tent at La Reserve.
I was making the 2,100 mile drive to Utah anyway. link It was just a question of how I wanted link to tackle it. Nice and leisurely, like my road trip through the Ozarks with a Marathon and my link truck last year? Nah. This was a chronograph, and chronographs are used to time things.
With all the technical developments you'd expect from a "research and development" watch, the Royal Oak Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon Extra-Thin RD#3 is a fitting link nod to the past for the link 50th anniversary of the Royal Oak. Audemars Piguet introduced the world's first self-winding tourbillon wristwatch in 1986 and, thanks to the design vision of Jacqueline Dimier, the company placed the tourbillon on the dial side, an link element that has become a quintessential part of the Royal Oak lineup.
Let's begin link with the watch itself purely from a design standpoint. Do I connect with the look? Not entirely, but that's mostly because it feels a bit big. It's a little link thick, and the overall aesthetic is more playful and more automotive-inspired than I like my watches to be. The fabric strap with the Carrera branding? Not my cup of tea. The red leather strap on the rose gold variant? I'm not a red-strap guy. But then I link think back to those vintage Porsches.
This resonated with me. We seemed to be on the same page that whether it’s his 1968 Moonwatch, or the $300 customized Seikos he link got from a guy in Taiwan called Seiko Boy, link or the $120 Luch from Belarus that I just got because I like the font and red seconds hand, the best and most important thing you can say about a watch is link very often just “That thing’s cool.”
