It bears repeating that this new watch is link practically a facsimile of the original from 1959. In fact, Breitling says that the only concessions to modernity that the current watch makes are its link increased water resistance (to 30 meters) and the use of Superluminova in lieu of radium. The back of the watch is even closed, a period-correct connection to vintage watches that most companies can't resist breaking in the course of link making vintage homages.
DO be kitsch on occasion. Zachary Weiss recommends the link Girard Perregaux Casquette, for link example. A weirdo watch like that is unusual enough to earn you double-takes and style points. And it won't make you look like a try-hard who just cashed out his trust link fund for the same piece everybody else is chasing.
I’d resisted the MoonSwatch craze until Saturday morning. I thought about lining up on day one, way back when, and quickly realized I link liked sleep more. Some of the original releases were cool. Heck, I even covered the Moonshine release in Times Square and was told link that there were a few left and I could have gotten one. But by the time link I found out, I was already home in sweatpants. That all changed on Saturday.
The dial is rather link irresistibly reminiscent of the Snowflake, sure, link but the texture is unlike the Snowflake's in its distinctly bark-like articulation. This is actually one of the more literal interpretations of natural inspiration that I think we've seen from Grand link Seiko – although it's still sufficiently abstracted that if GS hadn't dubbed this one "White Birch" right out of the gate, you wouldn't necessarily have made that specific an association on your own.
The mesmerizing dial is three-dimensionally curved down towards the edge. Virtually link all modern general-purpose movements link including the MIYOTA in this model are intended to be mated with a flat dial, which means the dial-side of the movement is also flat. link Asaoka came up with a specifically designed dial profile to work around this.
