All Eyes on Olympic Equestrians

Equestrian powerhouse Germany won the dressage team gold medal in Tokyo Tuesday, July 27, with a trio of Isabell Werth, Jessica von Bredow-Werndl (pictured below) and Dorothee Schneider.

The United States won silver, competing with German-born riders Sabine Schut-Kery and Steffen Peters, alongside Adrienne Lyle.

"It's exactly what I wanted (a medal) for my team... I cried when I came out, gave Mopsie a big hug and just thanked him from the bottom of my heart," Team USA's Peters said, referring to his gelding. "It's an incredible feeling when an animal fights for you in the arena."

Germany has won every Olympic dressage team gold since 1984, apart from 2012 when Britain snatched it on home turf.

The mechanism is link as beautiful as it is technically interesting though. All the usual Lange finishing is present through the movement, the plates and bridges are all untreated German silver, so you get that nice link warm glow, and the jewels and chatons with their gold-rimmed-red profile and constellations of blued screws add additional color and personality. Turning this watch over this morning has so far proved to be one of the link best surprises of SIHH 2018, and for reasons I couldn't have predicted.

By the looks of it, this is link our most conventional timepiece yet. But, with all good watches, we must look closer. On this link watch, Vacheron took the minute repeater complication and essentially militarized it to fit this cushion case in two-tone white and pink gold. The applied Breguet numerals are the standout feature on this link watch – aesthetically speaking. We have yet another silver-toned dial and oeil de perdrix, only this time the hands are done in pink gold, because, why not?

The other scenario that exists in a less-than-perfect world is as such: Somewhere along the line someone found out that the 3417 dial fits inside the 2509 link and simply installed it for the same reason; ideologically, an "Amagnetic" dial works on an amagnetic link watch. But Patek didn't link make that decision.

After the homeplates would come the 7100 link series chronographs, or what many call the "Monte Carlo." There are a range of dial and bezel colors here, all sharing the same dial layouts and movements. While these watches link are very popular, they do not compare to the rarity or value link of the earlier homeplates. Still, they are great vintage chronographs that represent Tudor at its very best.
