WOMEN+POWER: Kamala Harris

Former Vice President Kamala Harris said she has not decided whether she will seek the presidency again in 2028 but acknowledged the possibility recently.

Asked directly in a live video call with author Sharon McMahon if she would run again, Harris replied that she “might,” offering one of her most explicit answers yet on her political future. The comment came during a conversation that otherwise focused on lighter topics and her recently released memoir.

Speculation on Harris’ potential political future has been a constant after losing the 2024 presidential race. Early polls have gained significance as potential contenders for the 2028 presidential election begin to emerge. Even with the election still years away, polling offers potential insight into candidate viability, voter sentiment and evolving party dynamics, particularly after the pivotal 2024 election cycle.

Harris has repeatedly said she is weighing her next steps as Democrats begin looking ahead to 2028. Harris’ post-2024 profile, sustained by a national book tour and decision not to run for California governor, has positioned her as a prominent potential contender despite her loss.

“Last question,” McMahon said. “Everybody here wants to know the answer. Will you run again?”

“I haven’t decided,” Harris said and later added, “I might.”

Harris then said in part, “the book is about a specific period in time. There was no agenda beyond what we’ve discussed already, which is just sharing with people, you know, the reality of the experience, and hopefully allowing people to see something of themselves in it, in a way that—you know, that Girl Scout troop, when it comes time for them to read it, might see themselves in it and know what they can do and that they could do it.”
